Old Dominick

We first visited the distillery in downtown Memphis in 2022, when we were overwhelmed by the sense of history. The story of the company’s beginnings stretch back 150 years to the day its Italian Founder, Dominic Canale, devised the recipe for what is now its Memphis Toddy as a successful wholesaler, confectioner and whiskey purveyor. Dominic knew his market.

Old Dominick’s Bourbon first appeared in 1866. Five generations later, cousins Chris and Alex Canale own the distillery housed in a fully renovated, cavernous machine works building where the celebrated Head Distiller, Alex Castle, performs her magic.

Since our visit, Old Dominick has released Alex’s Straight Tennessee Whiskey. The newly designed bottle is almost, but not quite, as inviting as having another sip of that nectar.
