While the world of whiskey turns inexorably, absorbing continual market changes, there remains the consistent appeal of that centuries-old product: Moonshine. Being associated with illicit, small-scale, homespun distilling has given moonshine a simple, earthy edge over more sophisticated categories of whiskey.
Clyde Deck was a traditional, secretive moonshiner, making a living from flavors of corn whiskey in the hills of Middle Tennessee many decades ago. He might hardly have expected that his grandson, Ryan Burchfield, would eventually fill his moonshining boots. Ryan is a 27-year army veteran who spotted an opportunity to continue the family heritage by acquiring Roaring River in 2025. The distillery had been lovingly tendered by its original owners, and Ryan is now focused on continuing their creativity, developing new flavors and refining the production process.
Ryan is joined by Savannah Connor and his son Landon Burchfield, future Master Distiller. The Roaring River team has inherited an enticing array of offerings, from ‘Out of the Blue’, a Gold Medal winner for its tart blue raspberry flavor, to ‘Cinnamon Roll’, a Gold and Silver Medal winner. And then there’s the best-seller: ‘The Real Dill’, with pickle spears packed into every jar.
